Welcome

Hey, you. Yes, you. What does mental health mean to you? Some people seem to stop when they realise that health is contradictory to what we’re talking about. Mental health includes the good and the bad. So if we aren’t ready to approach mental health as being just as important as physical health – what are we doing? If we aren’t ready to better ourselves, how can you improve the way you feel?

While I’m by no means a qualified health professional, having a disability lends itself well to finding and applying new ways of thinking. And I hope you get something from it.

The idea is that you find at least one thing I say useful. You might not. You might think I’m here to convince you I’m some sort of Oracle. Just to put it out there; I’m not. There just happens to be a few people that would disagree. What, with my being a wise – old owl and all.

If you are reading this, I’ll assume you have either had problems with your mental health, or know someone who has. Or – if you’re lucky – well on the way to recovery. In that case, I’m so happy for you! That’s what we want.

Let’s wipe the slate clean. As much as society would have us believe, there is nothing black and white about mental health (I know, shock horror). But a few of you will be itching to brush aside the rogue tear. Go ahead. Let it out, you will feel better. There is no judgement here, at least not from me.

If you feel at all like questioning what you thought you knew about mental health, please do. It is good to be open minded. If, like me, your mind is going in circles, (is it? Should it be?) congratulations.

The skeptics at least, can now begin to empathise and lay down the foundations of understanding how you feel. We hope!
