Voice typing and academia; what do these two things have in common? Quite a bit, actually. When I first started using voice-to-text dictation as part of my writing process — both academically and creatively — I didn't realise how much I would end up using dictation as part of my writing process. Admittedly, I thought it was going to be another tool that I would use, but I didn't realise that it would become my preference. Before this, I found my typing to be slow and clunky —

I do think it's an opportunity for me to educate able-bodied people on how disability can affect everything in daily life. As a way of helping them understand how they can help disable people — almost like an entry point, if you like, in terms of how the world looks. Which allows able-bodied people to better understand the perspective of where disabled people are coming from.
