Poem: A Moment by the Sea

I was by the sea one day
in the hope of quelling my ever-screaming mind for a moment.
It was quiet,
I listened to the roll of the waves as they came in and out,
And the Sun beat upon my skin as I felt the sand between my toes
I eyed the sea again,
and watched it evolve towards the horizon and the oceans beyond.
One day, I went to the sea in order to calm my mind, but instead of clearing my mind,
I was left with more questions.
Questions like what is the meaning of life? Is there a meaning of life?
Is there anything but the way that we interpret life?
Looking out to sea, I think of nothing and yet everything.
My mind explodes in a haze of colour,
I consider the phenomenology of life and what that means.
Could it mean that to live at all is to feel the aches of life?
The way that happiness is always on the other side of every pain
The way we could all go through the same experience and interpret it differently.
One person may go left,
one person may go right,
the other may go West,
but what combines this is
the way that we are surrounded by the sea,
quelling and squashing
Forever waiting for the peace and quiet that arrives with a glance at the sea
Capturing the thoughts that a moment's peace can release
