Poem: On the Horizon

The waves,

They once rocked high and fast.

And now, as I look upon the horizon of the morning sun, the sea is calm.

And you, you stand upon the mast,

keeping a watchful eye.

Later in the night, the waves rise again, the intensity builds and we pull together,

as one crew in amongst the storm in the night.

Which reminds me, when I look out upon the morning sun, to appreciate the coming days, weeks, and months, and the strength we find in others as they stand upon the mast, strong as ever.

So, why is it in this moment,

as I look upon the horizon,

and then look at you,

that I feel nothing?

The sun is glaring, burning my skin,

and yet I feel barely anything.

The sun should be like a life source, burning my skin, but lighting up my soul.

Yet, looking at you, and the horizon before me, I still feel nothing.

Can you explain this at all?

What I feel is nothing.

I hope, one day, the light of the sun will once again light up my soul. Maybe, one day, the strength I see in you will be a strength that I recognise within myself.
