The Coronation of the King: A Poem

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

The 6th of May was the Coronation of King Charles III, and as such, I have written a poem to mark the occasion, and would like to share it with you…

The Coronation of the King

So here we are, marking the Coronation of King Charles III.

It doesn't seem long ago that we were celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

But as is the course of life,

The next in line must ascend to the throne, becoming the Head of State.

Many of us feel a sense of apprehension: a change that was coming,

But nobody quite knew when.

Queen Elizabeth II was a constant for many years, and Charles was kept under her watchful eye.

As we standby, watching history unfold,

We hope, above all, that His Majesty will have the same Grace, Determination, and Resolve that his mother possessed.

This week is momentous, with it being the first Coronation that many have seen,

And the first any of us have seen in 70 years.

The year was 1953, and now 2023

So much has changed

And yet Monarchy has remained strong.

As the crown is placed on His Majesty’s head,

And the jewels shine wide,

all around us.

with Pride, Power, and Sentiment,

The Nation’s Heart will swell,

A sense of good in the world against all that is bad.

The knowledge of entering a new era.

As we wish the King well in the continuation of his legacy.
