Using Dictation to Make the Most of Your Writing Time

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

As somebody with a disability, who is also a wheelchair user, I have learnt — over the course of my life — to be resourceful.

As part of that resourcefulness, I have learned to make the best of it; every situation.

More recently, I have come to really appreciate the benefits of voice to text dictation.

Technically speaking (pardon the pun yet to come), I can type just as well as the average person, despite my physical hindrances.

I believe part of this is due to my stubbornness — and a general feeling that I must learn to do what I feel that I 'can't' do to the best of my ability in order to achieve what I strive.

There is opportunity and lessons to be learnt in that.

As we speak (or as you read), I am writing this post via voice to text dictation, and it is taking less than five minutes to write.

Breaking this down — that is at least 10 minutes of value if you were to think about the post and scroll on.

And as much as you need if you were to apply it, in your own way, to your business.

I'm all about playing to strengths.

The main thing about dictation is that I can get my thoughts down very, very, quickly. I can write a thousand words in under half an hour, if I have a very clear understanding of what I would like to say.

That way, my physical ability does not get in the way of my cognitive processes and thinking.

So, theoretically, my writing could be better with dictation.

There is inevitably a lot more editing — so, despite this looking like a load of chunky drivel to me — by the time you read it, it will be concise and interesting.

If not, just a load of waffle.
